The Last One Awake — Anna Saenko

Текст песни

The hallway bends beneath the door
Dust keeps settling on the floor
Your coat is hanging, cold and still
No one is coming, no one will

Count every breath
Hold it in
Something waits
Under the skin

I am the last one awake
With both hands pressed to the gate
If I let go, the room gets in
If I stay, it starts again

The kitchen clock has lost its face
A red mark dries beside the vase
The ceiling trembles, then goes calm
I taste the metal on my palm

I am the last one awake
With both hands pressed to the gate
If I let go, the room gets in
If I stay, it starts again

No prayer reaches through the floor
No footsteps pass the locked front door
The walls lean close, the air turns thin
I hear the dead outside begin

Stay down
Stay still
Let the silence
Have its fill

I am the last one awake
There is no morning left to make
The hinges bend, the dark comes through
I close my eyes and wait for you

The room goes quiet
The pulse goes low
Nothing remains
But falling snow
