Shape of Your Absence — Dmitrii_K

Текст песни

October keeps tapping the glass with its rings
The maples let go of their last copper wings
My coat smells of rain and the bus rolls away
You said you were leaving; I knew what to say
But the words stayed folded like notes in a drawer
Now your key isn’t turning that lock anymore

Rain on the roof, wind under the door
I count all the things I don’t count anymore
The season goes gray, and the days disappear
I’m learning the shape of your absence this year

Wet leaves make a quilt on the steps by the store
The old corner café has your seat by the door
I take the long way past the field and the tracks
With my hands in my pockets, rehearsing the facts
We were good for a while, then we weren’t, that’s the truth
Still I miss who I was when I stood next to you

Rain on the roof, wind under the door
I count all the things I don’t count anymore
The season goes gray, and the days disappear
I’m learning the shape of your absence this year

Maybe spring will come quiet, no promise, no sign
Maybe I’ll stop checking the weather for mine
Till then let the cold put the miles in between
And let every storm wash the street clean

October keeps tapping; I let the rain speak
The trees have gone bare, but the sky’s only weak
I walk home alone, let the wind take the rest
And carry this ache like a stone in my chest
